THE CARLAW CORRIDOR Toronto Community Ventures (TCV) developed this new advocacy and action project for the Carlaw Corridor area. The industrial zone lies within the residential community of South Riverdale. Both have suffered from the decline in industrial activity. TCV discovered pockets of small entrepreneurial businesses, mainly fine and commercial artists, but also a wide variety of technical and service-based firms. It developed the Carlaw Corridor CED/Enterprise Zone and the Riverdale Artisans' Guild Business Network projects to build upon this base. The belief is that once these New Economy sector businesses are developed, the resulting growth will have a ripple effect outward to the surrounding residential area. The Carlaw Corridor |
