2002 CALL FOR PROPOSALS (1/4) (For Information Only)

The Urban Issues Program is now calling for proposals from community groups working in mid to large-size Canadian cities. In order to respond to regional needs and differences, the Urban Issues Program will give particular consideration to projects based in the following seven cities: Quebec City; Ottawa/Hull; Hamilton/Wentworth; Saskatoon; Regina; Calgary and Victoria. However, groups in other cities are still encouraged to apply.

Successful proposals will be eligible for support up to $30,000 annually for a period of up to three years.

The Urban Issues Program funds a diverse range of projects. However, successful projects share certain common goals and approaches:

* Help local communities develop new, long-term solutions to demonstrated community needs whether related to housing, the urban environment, culture, neighborhood sustainability or other issues affecting the day-to-day life of city residents.

* Focus on developing support and respect within the community so that residents are inspired to think critically about their neighborhoods, to share information and strategies with other groups and to create new plans and projects for the community.

* Ensure both significant and ongoing input by local residents as well as a commitment to developing local leadership on the project.

* Encourage cooperation and collaboration among the city's agencies and communities.

* Relate to the Urban Issues Program's vision of the city and its future (please read the North Hatley Statement found on the Urban Issues Program web site under "Program Philosophy").

The Urban Issues Program will only consider applications from groups or organizations, not individuals. Organizations must be registered charities. Groups must be partnered with an organization that is a registered charity.
